From the Brodick ferry, turn right, signpost Lochranza, and drive through the village for about a mile passing a school on the left and the Heritage Museum on the right. At a sharp right turn, go straight on, B880, signpost Blackwaterfoot and over the String Road. After about 6 miles, turn right signpost Machrie and Pirnmill and follow the single-track road to the coast at Machrie. Turn right and follow the coast road for about 7 miles to the village. Poppies is 1 mile north of the village centre (Shop and Post Office) and is set back from the road on a meadow.
Travel to Arran
The main ferry to Arran is the crossing from Ardrossan, 30 miles west of Glasgow, to Brodick, sailing time 55 minutes. It is essential that you contact Caledonian MacBryne as soon as you book your holiday to ensure a vehicle reservation. There is also a smaller ferry from Claonaig to Lochranza that does not need booking.

Arran is also easily reached by air and rail . Both Prestwick and Glasgow airports have rail links to the ferry at Ardrossan and besides the national carriers, two of the budget airlines have daily flights. Rail travel would be to Glasgow Central Station and then to Ardrossan Harbour to meet the ferry. Car hire is available on the island.
